Formation Ministries

Family & Children Activities: Throughout the year, St. Ignatius offers activities that are especially designed for children and or their families–Vacation Bible School, Say Thanks for Giving, Blessing of Animals, Rosary Workshop, Family Advent Program, Christmas Eve Children’s Liturgy, A Day in the Life of Jesus, Parish Mission Activities, May Crowning, and the Volunteer Picnic.

RCIA: The Right of Christian Initiation for Adults is offered annually. This program for adults who wish to become members of the Catholic Church, runs from October through Easter. Please contact the Faith Formation Office if you or someone you know is interested.

Baptism Preparation: Parents requesting baptism are required to attend a one evening preparation class. Contact the parish office for details.

Bible Study: Meets on Tuesday nights during the school year. See bulletin for details.

Family Ministry: Family Ministry is a relatively new addition to the Faith Formation Department at St. Ignatius. Within this ministry are found several types of programs and activities aimed at enhancing parish life and catechesis for families. Some of these activities include Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Pre-Cana classes for engaged couples, and the Sponsor Couple Program, a one-on-one alternative to the classes for engaged couples. Special annual devotional events include Blessing of the Animals, Advent wreath making, the May Procession and family retreats.

The Family Home Ministry Program is an alternative to the traditional classroom instruction style of Faith Formation. This program, which is coordinated by the Family Minister, supports parents and caregivers as they provide strong and viable faith formation in the home setting. Families spend about 1 ½ hours each week on lessons and are required to attend at least seven of the nine monthly sessions offered. This program encourages parents and children to develop in faith, become knowledgeable in Catholic Doctrine and teachings, and strive to create an active prayerful community.

Life in the Spirit Seminar: Interested in a renewed appreciation of the presence and activity of the Spirit in your life? Life in the Spirit Seminar is offered in the Fall and Spring in the Historic Church and meets for seven consecutive Monday nights. Experience the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit in a new way. “It shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out a portion of my spirit on all mankind” — Acts 2:17 For more information, call the parish office.

Exploring the Sunday Readings: Sunday readings are suspended due to the parish center construction.  Please watch our weekly bulletin for updates as to when this program will resume…

Marriage Sponsor Couple Program: Trained couples meet one-on-one with engaged couples to help them prepare well for the sacrament of marriage. Contact the parish office for more information in taking part in this ministry, either as an engaged couple or as a sponsor couple.

We also have available a nurse trained to instruct couples in Natural Family Planning. Contact the Parish Nurse for more information.

All volunteers in Faith Formation and other programs in which contact with children is required must complete a Volunteer Service Application, provide three references and agree to a criminal history screening, attend a two-hour STAND training session, and comply with the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct.
